This will be a light discussion of the
subject. Wow, I wish I have a degree in Philosophy to tackle this topic like my
brother Fernando. But don't worry, coming from me, what else could it be? Ha
ha…. Besides, it is 3 in the morning, I got to get this web site finished.
Most people would define success as equal to monetary achievement, I. E.:
SUCCESS = TONS OF MONEY.
However, Alonzo's define success as:
FAITH + GOOD WORKS
. = HAPPY
(GOD + COUNTRY + FELLOW MAN +
FAMILY)
THEREFORE:
SUCCESS = HAPPY
Which I believe is closer to the truth. But, they nevertheless acknowledge that having
monetary financial wealth would take care of a lot of problems and make one happy. I
have a cousin like that. He has, first and foremost, happiness (G,C,FM,F) but also has
financial wealth (he is a billionaire, if not a multi-).
I remember my elder brother during the wake of my father, "Let us remember that we
Alonzo's are plague with inherited illnesses and therefore have short lives, we must do
what we must for God, country and family as soon as we can…"
Also, immediately after realizing I just went flat-line on an operating table in a
hospital, "Oh God, please don't let me die yet, I have not done much for others
…". I was thinking, I have done, experienced, seen, felt. tasted and loved
everything and anything more so than an average Joe, but I was thinking there are those
that need me, that love me. When I realized, I am not for me…. And I do not
matter…. And when the dust settles, it is what you did that matters, not what
you had…. I thank God for letting me see that.
So the point is, there is no point. But, it is what one had done for GOD, COUNTRY, FELLOW
MAN, FAMILY that matters to be listed on our rolls,
I guess, Dr. Jose Rizal stated it like a true Alonzo,
"Walang
Kabuluhan ang Buhay kung Hindi Iu-ukol sa Dakilang Layunin"
Translation:
"Life is meaningless if not dedicated to a Noble cause"
For years I thought he meant that what life meant was from the point of
view of the country, the fellow man, being selfless. What I did not know was, he was
taking about YOU, ME, AND EVERYBODY. It is for YOUR happiness, for YOUR success, to
dedicate it so, for YOU, ME AND EVERYBODY's point of view. I guess, it is when
you give yourself that you gain you it.
