JUDGE ESTANISLAO BELAN stated that the Judge of the
Highest Court has called His son, and that when He calls, there are no appeals as in
Justices Court on earth. He stated that Attorney Alonzo had accomplished his destiny
and now is to meet his maker and thanked the maker for him. Judge Belan claimed to be the
closest among Atty Alonzo's friends and knows Atty Alonzo, during his lifetime, left an
indelible mark with everyone he had met and served. And that Attorney Alonzo's
intentions and achievements are the noblest he has seen that other lawyers could only wish
for. MR. BENNY BAUTISTA, another "compadre" of Attorney Alonzo as
Judge Belan was, who ran for Mayorship at the prodding of Attorney Alonzo before, also
spoke strengthening what previous speakers had said.
There were 2 interlude songs during the service. Both were at the request of
Attorney Alonzo while he was still alive for his memorial service. The songs were
"My Way" and "Hindi Kita Malilimutan" . They were performed by
Mr. Dante Bantatua of OctoArts, Mr. Bantatua is the former lead singer of the band
"Right Directions" who appeared on several television shows and was recorded by
OctoArts on a "NUROCK" album and was played innumerable times on DWNU radio
station. The hall was packed with people, most of which were relatives, friends,
former clients and associates of Attorney Alonzo, all of whom were, after hearing the
speeches and the songs performed by Mr. Bantatua, were teary eyed.
There was an old lady with a young grandson whom nobody knew or recognizes, until she
approached Tonette Alonzo and introduced herself, "You probably don't know me, but we
are from Pila, Laguna. There is a case that your father volunteered to help us as a
witness through a deposition, even though he was ill. Although he passed on before
he could do anything, we are grateful to him for his noble intentions. It means a
world to us". Tonette whispered to his brother, "This is probably what Dad
means by, ang indolehensiya ay sa Panginoon."
Ben-jun Alonzo, his eldest son, thanked all those who spoke and shared his feelings that
he "thought we knew everything about our father". His other son, Attorney
Fernando "Nanding" Alonzo, whispered to his Kuya Antonio (Tonette), "I
thought I was already close to what daddy had already accomplished, marami pa pala akong
kakaining kanin". Tonette at that time thought for himself with tears in
his eyes, "Daddy, how could we ever surpass you, like you want us too, when you are
unsurpassable?"
"Ang doctor na matalino sa puso, ay BOBO sa bato!...."
Frustrated with the Medical Profession was Ben-Jun's sentiment. He commented,
"......ang doctor na matalino sa PUSO ay BOBO sa BATO!, at ang doctor na matalino sa
BATO ay BOBO sa ....... AND they don't talk to each other nor do they advise the relatives
of patients, at least not sufficient enough to help relatives make an intelligent
decision".
